History

Family Rescue Foundation was founded way back in 2002, as Home Sweet Orphanage, by Mr. Robert Luwalira. In memory of Late Father Declan Ot’oole, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Northern Uganda, on 21st March 2002. Father Declan Ot’oole was an Irish Priest, serving the Lord with the Mill Hill Missionaries in Uganda.

He is remembered for his love and compassion towards the poor suffering children in Uganda. Through his generosity, Robert Luwalira was among those, he brought from the streets of Kampala. Discovering that, Robert was a visionary man, with a charitable heart towards the poor. He developed interests in him, in that he preached, mentored, educated him, so as to transform him into a devoted and desirable leader, who can help others.

Accepting the obligation to bridge the gap of joy in the lives of orphans and other vulnerable children, Robert took un-compromised values and started with a fundraising towards the helpless children on streets. As the number kept on increasing, Robert decided to establish an orphanage at his born village, a place where HIV/AIDS cases are historically unprecedented, and with indescribable poverty.

By the end of 2002, Robert had registered few of the worst suffering orphans, providing their necessities, with food, shelter, and clothing, medical aid on regular basis, using his small income. Today the orphanage accommodates 45 Kids and feeds over 70 orphans and other vulnerable children during day time.
