About Family Rescue Foundation
Family Rescue Foundation is a non-profit community based organization, registered in the Masaka District area and founded in 2002 by Mr. Robert Luwalira. It was created in memory of the late Father Declan O’Toole, who was shot dead by gunmen in Kotido Northern Uganda, on 21st March 2002.
Declan is remembered for his love and compassion towards the poor and suffering children in Uganda. Through his generosity, Robert Luwalira was among those, brought from the streets of Kampala. Robert was a visionary man with a charitable heart towards the poor. Father O’Toole developed an interest in Robert in that he preached to, mentored and educated him, transforming him into a devoted and desirable leader who can help others.
Accepting the obligation to bridge the gap of joy in the lives of orphans and other vulnerable children, Robert took his un-compromised values and began fund-raising for the helpless children on streets. Despite his efforts, the number continued to increase. It was then that Robert decided to establish an orphanage at his born village, a place where HIV/AIDS cases are historically unprecedented, and with indescribable poverty. By the end of 2002, Robert had registered a few of the worst suffering orphans, providing them with the necessities: food, shelter, clothing, and medical aid on a regular basis, all using his small income. Today the orphanage accommodates 44 disadvantaged orphans and helps 156 in a child sponsorship program using our orphanage school and surrounding schools.
MISSION:
Bridge the gap of joy in the lives of vulnerable children and poor families.
VISION STATEMENT:
It is our vision to reach out far more to the suffering children in remote villages with the love of God, bring them into a saving, personal relationship with God through Christ and help transform them to make a Godly difference in their world with the provision of the exact necessities to their physical life.
THE CASES FOR AID:
What is very touching is not the quantity of the help or how long it will last, but touching the soul intentions, and the spiritual aspect of giving. It’s this attention and care that is particularly needed by these innocent children.
Overwhelming Needs:
Family Rescue Foundation looks forward to help the children who live in conditions of extreme poverty where food, clothing and/or shelter cannot be afforded.
The needs of these children are extensive. They are dirty, hungry and sick. We try to do anything we can to end their misery, The medicine that they need is very expensive, as well as the beds (accommodation facilities), school supplies, clothes. Any of these items would make a world of difference to these kids.
One of the ways we try to show them their loved is through the quality of their living conditions. When the environments have toilets that don’t work, roofs that leaks or when the home smells like urine and feces, the children take that as a reflection about how we feel about them. Before we can get into their spiritual needs, we need to take care of their physical needs. It is then that we can make an eternal impact on a kid’s life.
We do have schooling (scholarships) available for some students to get at least some of their education but not enough for them to complete it. We at least provide what is necessary for them to grow up and live normal lives. A critical time each year we face is a Back to School month. With your donations we hope to make them complete, help them understand they have a future and that there are options available for them.
We do have a provision of spiritual programs like training and teaching children about Jesus. We teach that there is a new life by faith if they will but take it and go with it. We plant seeds in their hearts and hope they will take on the new life. However we encounter limited resources carrying out the ministry, like Christian literatures.
